Freeze Warnings and Snow Across 2000 Miles of the US

It may say spring on the calendar, but plummeting temperatures will bring freeze warnings to the south as a 2000 mile stretch of the US could see snowfall today; plus, more of today’s weather news and forecast.

Freeze warning across a large swath of the US today

At least 50 million Americans will be under some kind of freeze warning or watch today. Parts of the central US, upper Midwest, Ohio Valley, and the South will see winter-like temperatures.

Parts of the central US and Plains will see lows between 25-35 degrees and extending into areas of the South as far deep as Central Texas where temperatures dip into the range of 30-35 degrees. Portions of the Mid-South and Ohio Valley will see temperatures drop down in the range of 20-30 degrees.

The most bone-chilling temperatures will be in the upper Midwest. Sioux Falls will dip down to 15 degrees and Minot will fall to 17 degrees with a wind chill of 10 degrees.

Other cold spots will be Minneapolis at 18 degrees, Pierre at 22 degrees, Lincoln at 24 degrees, Des Moines at 26 degrees, Milwaukee at 27 degrees, and Chicago at 31 degrees.

Snow across 2000 mile stretch of US

Snow and a wintry mix will extend from the Northwest to the Northeast today covering some 2000 miles of the northern tier of the country.

The heaviest snow is forecast by the National Weather Service (NWS) for portions of Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska, Utah, and Colorado. Significant snow is forecast for portions of the Dakotas, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Snowfall is also predicted for Chicago, Detroit, and Buffalo.

Northwest & Northern Rockies:

Clearing skies in the Northwest and mountain snow in the northern Rockies. Highs: Seattle 65, Medford 72, Boise 54, Billings 36, Minot 38, Rapid City 39.

Southwest:

Sunny and warm. Highs: Phoenix 83, Albuquerque 64, El Paso 76, San Antonio 71, Brownsville 73.

Central US & Upper Midwest:

Freeze warnings in the central US with possible snow, snow showers in the upper Midwest. Highs: Lubbock 68, Dallas 65, Oklahoma City 62, Kansas City 53, Minneapolis 36.

Ohio Valley:

Freeze warnings, rain, wintry mix and snow showers. Highs: Chicago 41, St. Louis 53, Detroit 39, Cincinnati 54.

South:

Cold mornings. Mostly clear but rain showers in Southeast. Highs: Houston 71, Memphis 62, New Orleans 70, Atlanta 62, Charlotte 61, Jacksonville 75, Tampa 87, Miami 87.

East:

Wintry mix and some snow showers, rain for coastal areas. Highs: Norfolk 52, Washington, D.C. 56, Buffalo 39, New York 54, Boston 52, Bangor 44.
