Winter storm Landon will impact a large part of the US early this week, with its major impact by Groundhog Day on Wednesday stretching from parts of the West to the Northeast; plus your 3-day national forecast.
Winter storm Landon will begin moving into the US on Tuesday, and by Groundhog Day midweek, will deliver a large swath of snow and freezing rain that will stretch from the Southwest to the Northeast.
According to the Weather Channel, the storm will be a fresh supply of Arctic air, driven by a strong jet plunge that will meet with moisture coming up from the Gulf.
The most affected areas by snow and freezing rain will be the southern Rockies, the Plains, the Midwest, and Ohio Valley.
Heavy snow is forecast for New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan.
The National Weather Service is advising travel should be avoided in these areas mid-to-late week.
On Wednesday, winter storm watches have been issued for southern and eastern Colorado; southern, central, and western Kansas; Missouri; Illinois; central and northern Indiana; Northwestern Ohio; and southern Michigan.

Monday: Snow in the Northwest over parts of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and the northern regions of Nevada, Utah, and Colorado. Mix precipitation and freezing rain over Montana, North Dakota, and Minnesota.
Thunderstorms around the Texas Gulf stretch to over half of the state and span western and southern Louisiana.
Tuesday: Winter storm Landon begins to move in, bringing snow to the West over parts of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and into the central US over Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Minnesota.
Freezing rain will stretch from Oklahoma over Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana.
Rain over parts of the southern Plains and the South.
Wednesday: A fuller impact from Winter Storm Landon stretches across the US delivering snow over portions of Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. Snow over central and western Washington.
Freezing rain will stretch over Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio.
Mixed precipitation for most of the mid-Atlantic and Northeast.
Thunderstorms in the South over portions of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, and Tennessee.
