Record Heat Expands into the East and North Affecting Nearly Half of US

The record-setting heat will expand and will stretch from East to West sending temperatures soaring over 90 degrees to nearly half of the nation today, while there is a severe weather and flash flooding threat on 2 fronts.

Temperatures above 90 degrees for nearly half of US

It’s going to be a warm one across the nation today as at least 45 percent of the country will experience temperatures over that 90 degree mark on Wednesday. It’s easier to talk about where it won’t be hot, which will be limited to a few areas of the Northeast, northern Rockies, upper central, upper Midwest and Northeast.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued heat advisories on Wednesday for the following locations: southeastern New Mexico; western and eastern Texas; eastern Oklahoma; Arkansas; northern Louisiana; western Tennessee; northern central and western Mississippi.

Severe weather and flash flooding threat on 2 fronts

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued severe thunderstorm warnings and flash flood warnings on two separate fronts today.

West/Southwest:

Severe thunderstorm warnings: south-central and eastern Colorado; northeastern and east central New Mexico; northwestern Texas; the Oklahoma Panhandle; south-western Kansas.

Flash flood warnings: northeastern and east-central New Mexico; northern Texas; extreme west Oklahoma Panhandle.

Central US & Ohio Valley:

Severe thunderstorm warnings: central and northern Missouri; Illinois; western Indiana.

Flash flood warnings: over portions of northeastern Kansas; central and northern Missouri; southern and eastern Iowa; Illinois; eastern Indiana; southern Wisconsin; southwestern Michigan.
