Thunderstorms, Flooding Risk and Triple-Digit Heat Index for East

Widespread thunderstorms across the country today, but the eastern half of the US will feel the biggest impact with a triple-digit heat index and 5 separate areas that could see flash flooding and severe weather on Tuesday.

Thunderstorms could bring flash flooding and severe weather to east, Midwest

Thunderstorms will span more than half of the country on Tuesday, extending from the West, into the Rockies, as well as the Southwest, stretching into central US, South, Southeast, and northward to Ohio Valley, mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a warning of severe thunderstorms with possible severe weather to southeastern Wyoming extending into north-central, central, south-central and eastern Colorado.

4 areas with potential flooding risk:

Upper Midwest: eastern Minnesota, northern Wisconsin and northern Michigan.

Ohio Valley: central and east central Montana, central and southern Illinois, west-central Indiana.

Mid-Atlantic: central and northern West Virginia, southwestern Pennsylvania, southeastern Virginia.

Southeast: northeastern North Carolina.

Eastern US will see triple-digit heat index

The heat index will soar into the triple-digits across the eastern US on Tuesday. A few of the cities where the heat index will feel like temperatures are in the 100s zone are: Little Rock 101, New Orleans 103, Montgomery 103, Jacksonville 100, Charleston 102, Charlotte 102, Washington, D.C. 102.

Heat advisory: southwest Oregon; northern California; northeastern South Carolina;  western, eastern, central and northwest North Carolina; eastern Virginia; southern and central Maryland; Washington, D.C.; northern Virginia; eastern West Virginia; Delaware; New Jersey; southeastern Pennsylvania.
