Get ready for the coldest night of the season in many areas, as winter-like weather will sweep across the country delivering freezing temperatures throughout the week.
A cold front will deliver winter weather across the nation this week, delivering snow, lake effect snow, and mixed precipitation on Tuesday, as well as a number of freeze warnings throughout the week. Here’s a look at your forecast for the next three days.
Tuesday: A wintry mix will stretch from the Northwest, across parts of the West into the central US, bringing snow to south-central Montana and Western Wyoming. To the east, snow over northern Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. A wintry mix will stretch from Michigan across parts of the Northeast including Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.
Wednesday: Snow over north-central Colorado. A wintry mix will stretch over Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, with spotty mixed precipitation over parts of Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Further south, a wintry mix over eastern Tennessee, western North Carolina, and southwestern Virginia.
Thursday: Another storm will bring a wintry mix to the Northwest affecting California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming. To the east, a wintry mix over Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, and Vermont, while farther south, mixed precipitation over eastern Tennessee, western North Carolina, and southwestern Virginia.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a number of winter-weather advisories for Tuesday.
Winter weather advisory: south-central Wyoming and north-central Colorado, the Great Lakes region around Wisconsin and northern Michigan, where lake effect snow is anticipated.
Freeze warning: northeastern Kansas; northern Missouri; southeastern Iowa; central Illinois; southern Indiana; southern Ohio; central and eastern Kentucky; western and northern West Virginia; northern Virginia; Maryland; Delaware; south-central, southern and eastern Pennsylvania; northern New Jersey; southern New York.
Frost advisory: eastern Tennessee; eastern Kentucky; northern Virginia; Maryland; Delaware; New Jersey; southern Connecticut.
Thunderstorms are forecast for most of Texas, stretching into southern Oklahoma, Arkansas, and northern Louisiana.
Snow is anticipated over parts of south-central Montana and Western Wyoming, as well as for northern Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan in the upper Midwest.
Tuesday: Thunderstorms are forecast across most of Texas, spending into southern Oklahoma, Western Arkansas, and Northern Louisiana, as well as central and southern Florida and parts of the mid-Atlantic.
Wednesday: Thunderstorms affecting the same areas as Tuesday, with rain spreading across much of the South into the Southeast.
Thursday: Rain will stretch from Texas across the southern corridor into the southeast, with thunderstorms over much of Florida.
